Vintage USA-made Bigsby B5 Gold “Horseshoe” vibrato with vintage gold Bigsby bridge and LP-stamped bridge base.

HISTORY / PROVENANCE

I acquired this Bigsby B5 and bridge as loose parts in the early 1970s and have owned them ever since. I have never installed them on a guitar.

Because I personally acquired these parts in the early 1970s, they date from no later than that period and may date from the 1960s. I do not know the exact year of manufacture, so I am conservatively describing them as circa 1960s/early 1970s.

The B5 is marked “MADE IN U.S.A.” on the underside.

The accompanying vintage gold Bigsby bridge has an “LP” stamp on the underside of the bridge base. Please see the detailed photographs of all markings.

CONDITION

Very good vintage condition for hardware more than 50 years old.

The original gold finish shows normal age, patina, oxidation, discoloration and areas of finish wear. The pieces have been lightly hand-polished, but they have not been refinished or replated.

The B5 vibrato includes the handle, string bar/tension roller assembly and hardware shown in the photographs. A vintage 7/8" gold Bigsby tension spring that accompanied the unit when I acquired it in the early 1970s is included. The spring matches Bigsby's 7/8" gold tension-spring specification. Guitar mounting screws are not included. The bridge, base and adjustment hardware shown in the photographs are also included.

The B5 mounting holes appear quite clean. I acquired the unit loose in the early 1970s and have personally never installed it, but I cannot verify whether it may have been mounted before I acquired it.

Because I have never installed it on a guitar, it has not been recently functionally tested on an instrument.
