Don’t miss this one! Here is an absolute icon on Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk and Psychedelia, a Gibson ES-335 Dot from 1989, in Excellent Condition and featuring a pair of Bill Lawrence HB pickups. This beautiful blonde has certainly been played, and has some minor nicks and dings to show for it, along with a gracefully finish crazed top. But turn up the volume and feel those HBs purr under the hood, and you’ll know why you want, why you need this guitar. The pickguard is gone. Pickguards come and go. But great tone lasts forever.
This ES-335 came to us a little bit dirty and in need of a fine tuning of the set up. We cleaned the body and fretboard, adjusted the truss rod, adjusted the nut slot depths, crowned the frets, set the action and intonation, and touched up a little bit of peeling lacquer on the face of the headstock. In terms of damage, that lacquer was the only thing of note. In the photos, you’ll see some minor nicks and dings on the back of the neck, and some light finish crazing to the top. They all serve to soften the edges of this guitar and add a certain lustre to her beauty.

The list of players of ES-335s is all but endless. These guitars are iconic for good reason. The necks are comfortable and fast, the balance of the guitar, seated or standing, is perfect, and the center block makes for great sustain. And, at the heart of the ES-335 are the amazing pickups that have adorned this model over the years. From the Patent Applied For ‘57s to the Tim Shaw Humbuckers, Bill Lawrence HB pickups and the Classic ‘57s, the ES-335 has long been the go-to guitar for great tone.
This model is equipped with a pair of “The Original” Bill Lawrence designed HB pickups, an HBR in the neck position and an HBL in the bridge. They are known for exceptional string to string clarity, high definition and articulation. Their sound is punchy through the mid-range, with a tight low end and a clear, singing treble. The neck pickup is warm and woody, great for jazz and blues, while the bridge pickup has a notable bite, complex harmonics and the sustain needed for harder rock.
The guitar comes with a worn but completely serviceable TKL Hard Case.
Please be sure to check out the photos carefully and zoom in for detail. We’ve tried to capture this beauty from all angles.
