1982 Ibanez MC924 in polar white, with the original hardshell case, and in one of the prettiest colors ever, aged to perfection.
Built in a time where quality was definitely the priority, this bass feels incredible in that regard. Every aspect of this was made in a way that was shooting for the pinnacle of construction capabilities. The craftsmanship is pure excellence, top to bottom. They even took the time to write that on the control cover: "Built by the proud people of Ibanez, Japan."
And it was spec'd in a way that still has new basses sometimes struggling to catch up for features. In particular, the preamp is a 3 band boost/cut with bypass and passive tone.
It sounds great active!
And it sounds great passive!
The neck thru construction feels rock solid. The neck is maple with STEEL TONE BARS, so you know it is sturdy and straight.
The ebony fingerboard is dark and gorgeous with the gorgeous inlays.
All of the frets are well manicured and there is plenty of material left for decades more playing.
The profile of the neck is comfortable from the nut all the way to the 24th fret. And it balances so well.
Body is ash.
When I look back at videos from the 80s, aside from the SB1000 or XL2, this is the bass I tend to notice the most. People LOVED these back in the day. And the design stayed unchanged for a few years because it was frankly epic.
Of course, those days had basses weighing in a bit heavier than they do now. So to anyone who loves this era for the quality and playability and amazing tonality, but is not prepared to hold something like this around their shoulder anymore... I'm sorry.
This bass is in pretty darn good shape for being 44 years old.
There are some dings and chips in the finish, the worst being at the top horn, as shown in the pic.
The clearcoat at the edge of the fingerboard also seems to show some signs of detachment, but it's not terrible and doesn't feel bad when you play it.
Obviously, the (formerly Hipshot, now) Gotoh Resolite tuners aren't stock. One of the originals ended up breaking a post, so they were replaced with HS Ultralights... and then these Gotohs. GOOD NEWS: The original tuners ARE included... only 3 work, but it's not far from being back to stock. Or... you can enjoy this as is, with smooth tuning and a lighter headstock.
You do you!
Sold as is, no returns, so please feel free to ask any questions you'd like.
