The AKAI MPD218 is a compact USB MIDI pad controller built around 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive "Thick Fat" MPC-style pads with red backlighting, spread across 3 pad banks for up to 48 assignable zones. Six assignable 360° knobs add expressive control, and a further 3 control banks extend that to 18 mappable parameters. Dedicated buttons handle Note Repeat, Full Level, Swing (with multiple percentage settings), and Internal/External Clock selection, while 16 onboard presets let you save and recall custom mappings instantly. It connects and draws power via a single USB Type-B cable - no driver installation required on Mac or PC - and is also iOS compatible via a Camera Connection Kit. The MPD218 ships with a bundle of included software: Ableton Live Lite, Akai Pro MPC Essentials, Sonivox Big Bang Cinematic Percussion, and Big Bang Universal Drums.
