KoAloha Ukuleles was founded in 1995 by Alvin Okami. Currently, it is run by a small, elite team led by his eldest son and president, Alan, and his second son and vice president, Paul. The name comes from the "Naupaka" flower that grows in Hawaii and whose petals only bloom on one side. There is a legend about this flower that a man and a woman were torn apart by the jealousy of the fire god and became two different flowers that grow in Hawaii: the mountain naupaka and the beach naupaka. However, they can only bloom on one side, and this continues to this day. It is said that when the two naupaka flowers are brought together, their souls will be guided and lovers will surely be reunited. (There are several other legends about the Naupaka.) This is a beautifully designed model that expresses the mystical legend of the Naupaka using Hawaiian koa and mango wood. The contrast between the two woods is truly unique throughout the ukulele. It has the clear sound characteristic of KoAloha, but with a wide low end, while the mid and high frequencies are bright and vibrant, possessing a resonance that combines the best of both Hawaiian koa and mango wood. The tuning pegs can be changed to marble-colored knobs as an option. This model has a striking look. A highly durable and lightweight semi-light case is included.
