Matched pair of Q2 Audio Compex F765 compressor/limiters in 500-series format, with consecutive serial numbers 0023 and 0024 from early production. The F765 is the compressor and peak-limiter section of the legendary ADR F760 "Compex," the unit behind the drum sound on "When the Levee Breaks." Q2 Audio builds it under license from Audio & Design.

Provenance: this pair was previously owned by Robert Carranza, the GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY-winning engineer and mixer. He won a GRAMMY for Ozomatli's Street Signs, earned a Best Engineered Album nomination for Don't Mess With The Dragon, and won Latin GRAMMYs with Molotov. His credits include Marilyn Manson, Tyler Bates, Jack Johnson, Los Lobos, Bob Dylan, Beck and The Mars Volta. I bought the pair directly from him in July 2018, and PayPal purchase receipts are available to the buyer on request.

Condition: excellent. Both units are tested and working perfectly. The meters track, the limiter LEDs light and stereo link works. Cinemag CMOB-3L output transformers and Sifam gain-reduction meters.

• FET compressor with ratios of 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 5:1, 10:1 and 20:1, and a threshold from 0 to -20 dB in 2 dB steps
• Attack switch at 0.25, 2.5 or 25 ms. Release from 25 ms to 3.2 s, plus a dual-stage Auto setting
• 100:1 peak limiter with a pre-emphasis mode that works very well as a de-esser
• Stereo link for bus use, transformer-balanced output and a hooded gain-reduction meter
