1986 Spector NS-2 Brooklyn USA – Serial #1185
Offered here is a 1986 Spector NS-2, built in Brooklyn, New York, serial number #1185.
Spector's published USA serial-number records identify #1187 as the final Brooklyn serial number, placing #1185 within the final documented serial range of the original Brooklyn production.
History & Provenance
According to my family's history, this bass was purchased new in the United States in the 1980s by my uncle, Sergio Emilio Domínguez Montiel, a professional Mexican bassist who worked with artists including Lupita D'Alessio, Daniela Romo and Alberto Vázquez.
He used this Spector extensively as a professional instrument, including during his period working with Lupita D'Alessio. The bass has remained in our family since then.
I remember my uncle describing buying the bass as “love at first sight”, saying its translucent red finish reminded him of a cherry.
Electronics & Hardware
The bass is currently equipped with:
- HAZ active electronics
- EMG P/J pickups
- Spector brass bridge
- Brass nut
- Schaller tuners marked “Made in W. Germany”
- Translucent red/cherry finish
Weight: 4.25 kg / 9.37 lb
Condition
Listed in Good condition due to cosmetic wear.
This is a nearly 40-year-old instrument that was used professionally and shows genuine play wear, including scratches, dings and areas of finish wear. I have included detailed photographs of the cosmetic wear rather than attempting to hide it.
The bass is fully functional. The electronics and controls are working properly.
A demonstration video is available featuring the bass recorded direct, without EQ, compression, amp simulation or other processing, so prospective buyers can hear the instrument itself.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no known modifications or major repairs. The instrument received regular maintenance during my uncle's ownership.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition description. Additional detailed photographs are available upon request.
Please note: no case is included with the sale.
Location & Shipping
The bass is located in Querétaro, Mexico. In-person inspection and play testing can be arranged in Querétaro or Mexico City (CDMX).
International shipping is available. The instrument will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking and appropriate insurance/declared-value coverage.
Serious questions and reasonable offers are welcome.
