This is a great example of a Yamaha YSS 475 II soprano saxophone. The version 1 of this horn was great and you can still find them on sale today. (1st versions have the Yamaha logo in bold and parallel with the body. Plus the bell has no engraving: the case is also made of a faux leather exterior on first gen models).

This second version improved in some areas: intonation and ergonomics. The bore was also changed to allow a more dynamic style of playing. Intonation now is spot on, like it’s on rails. This series, the 475 is just as in tune as Yamaha’s 62, 675, 82 and 875.

This horn is in great shape. It has no dings or dents. It does however, have several places where the lacquer has worn off, and small surface scratches. This has no bearing on the sound and will not affect the instrument’s playability or longevity.

The pads are in great shape. The horn‘s pads seal well and it plays well from top to bottom.

Yamaha’s are known for their consistency. This horn is no exception.
