I've used this mic and its sibling mostly for live symphony work - percussion overheads (xylo, vibes) and timps. Also a couple times as drum kit overheads and for a live acoustic guitar performance and recording. With all these instruments, the mic was very clean and transparent, no coloration to the sound, no distortion with higher dB percussion hits.

This mic - #1 of a pair - has a Serial No of 01282. It comes in its original carrying case with original cutout foam, non-original shockmount, foam windscreen and an ADDITIONAL AKG SA40 clip. The manual is also included. I would rate the carrying case as in "Like New" condition.

The great thing about this mic is that it's ALMOST a 414 but at significantly less cost. There are a few physical differences between the 2:

The 314 has 4 polar patterns: Omni, Card, Supercard, and Figure 8. It has a -20dB pad and a HPF at 100Hz.

The 414 has 5 polar patterns: Omni, Wide Card, Card, Hypercard, and Figure 8. You can also use a switch to "blend" patterns (according to their manual), giving you a total of 9 patterns. It has a 3-position pad at -6dB, -12dB and -18dB, and HPF settings at 40Hz, 80Hz, and 160Hz.

The list price difference in the mics is $879 for the C314 and $1299 for the C414 XLii. Only you can decide if those extra settings are worth $400 extra dollars.
