PSound Bayan Russian Button Accordion for UVI Workstation (Card)

The bayan is the Russian chromatic button accordion, developed in the early twentieth century and used for both classical and contemporary music. It is a different instrument from a piano accordion, with a button layout that gives it a wider range and a distinctly darker, reedier voice.

PSound sampled a BUGARI BAYAN PRIME, and they claim this is the most accurate virtual accordion available. The specification is what backs that up: 3,000 samples at 96 kHz and 24 bit, 1.8 GB of content for a single instrument.

THE REGISTER COUNT IS THE PART THAT MATTERS TO A PLAYER. The right hand has 64 notes from E to G with FIFTEEN REGISTERS and chorus settings at 4 foot, 8 foot, 8 foot cassotto and 16 foot. The left hand has 58 notes from E to C sharp with SIX REGISTERS, chorus at 4 foot, 16 foot and 16 foot cassotto, plus pedal reinforcement.

Cassotto is worth explaining because it is the thing that makes a good accordion sound expensive. It is a tone chamber inside the instrument that the reeds sound into, and it gives a rounder, warmer, slightly muffled voice. Having cassotto registers sampled separately is why this can sound like a concert instrument rather than a general MIDI accordion.

The mechanical noises are sampled and ADJUSTABLE: key noise and register noise both have their own controls. Those noises are a large part of why a real accordion sounds alive, and being able to dial them to taste rather than having them baked in is the difference between a usable library and a demo.

There is a built in reverb with time and mix controls and an on or off switch.

Format: This is a brand new, unregistered activation card with printed instructions. Redeem the code with the manufacturer, download the software, and the licence is yours to keep.

It runs on the UVI Engine and requires UVI WORKSTATION version 2.5.6 or later, which UVI give away free at uvi.net. UVI Falcon works too, as does MOTU MachFive 3.2.1. It also uses PACE protection, so you need a FREE ILOK ACCOUNT to authorise it. If you were expecting a plain VST that just loads, please read that again before buying.
