Deering Sierra Mahogany 5-String Banjo: -06- Bell Bronze Tone Ring, Made in USA
A note on the photographs: the first three photos show the Sierra Mahogany. The rest show a maple Sierra, which shares the same pot, tone ring, hardware, fingerboard and inlays. Deering stains both versions brown mahogany, so they look much alike; the difference is the wood under the stain. The banjo you receive has a quartersawn mahogany neck and a mahogany resonator.
The Deering Sierra Mahogany is a 5-string resonator banjo with a quartersawn mahogany neck, a mahogany resonator and the Deering -06- 20 hole bell bronze tone ring, handcrafted in Spring Valley, California. At about 11 lbs, it is a professional bluegrass banjo, the mahogany version of one of Deering's most popular models. Brand new, in stock and ready to ship. The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 11 inches across, with the Deering -06- 20 hole bell bronze tone ring. 11 inch frosted medium crown head. Notched brass tension hoop with 24 round J-hooks and 1/4 inch hex nuts. Deering one piece cast zinc flange, Deering armrest, 5/8 inch Deering Smile bridge and Deering True Tone tailpiece. Nickel plated hardware.
The Neck
Quartersawn mahogany neck with a slender D shape, brown mahogany stain and a satin finish. A grade ebony fingerboard with original Deering designed engraved inlays. 22 nickel silver frets. Ebony nut at 1 1/4 inch width. Deering planetary tuners and a Deering Gotoh geared 5th string tuner. 26 1/4 inch scale length.
The Resonator
3-ply poplar, poplar and mahogany resonator in brown mahogany stain with a satin finish and straight sidewalls, 13 7/8 inches across. Overall length 38 inches.
