PRS SE TREMONTI 2008 PIANO BLACK - UPGRADES
Here's a great guitar for Friday night - a restored PRS SE Tremonti with some excellent upgrades.
I restore and upgrade guitars for a retirement hobby. It's fun! This Tremonti came to me as 'a tale of two cities', with plenty of dings and scratches on the back, but a beautiful front face and neck. Had some odd pickups, too. The front rates as Very Good, but the back is only Fair. The pickups had to go.
Upgrades: Tonerider AC4's made the guitar come alive again. I love these pickups, this is my fourth application of Toneriders. I chose the AC4's because they are so clean and lively, they give new life to almost any guitar. Very dynamic, responsive, clear, balanced and strong. If you haven't heard of them, you need to check them out - they are excellent. Alnico 4 magnets add the crispness and detail that Alnico 5's often overpower. Like PAF's on steroids.
The Front polished up beautifully. I added a new bridge, well, new to this guitar, it's a used bridge of high quality. This is a Jason Schroeder adjustable wrap around, be sure to check him out online. It has a little chrome ageing under the strings, but it's a fine solid bridge that helped to improve the tone, intonation and sustain. Looks cool, too.
The back...well, the back has lots of dings and scratches, it wasn't going to polish up. But it's the back, you know? Nobody ever sees it but you, it doesn't affect the tone, and it cuts the price. See pics.
The neck cleaned up with lots of effort. Some fretwork and polishing was done to restore the frets, the wood was cleaned and oiled. After a careful setup, the guitar plays tight and fast, like a Tremonti should. I thought the truss rod cover looked cool and completed the look.
So that's it. Great pickups, excellent neck, high quality bridge, a classy presentation on stage, and a beat up back. It's an easy to handle 7 lbs. 7 ozs. The guitar looks good, plays good, and sounds good, and that's what's important to me.
What do you think?
I'll add a used PRS gig bag too, and keep the price competitive, even with all the critical upgrades. I would call this restoration a big success! You can make it yours.
Please ask questions or make a fair offer. I pack like I'm shipping to myself - you can check my feedback.
Thanks for looking!
