This pains me to even consider selling this.
I have been lucky enough to own FIVE 1961 to 1963 Epiphone Newport Basses over the last 20 years.
This one you're looking at here is the best and definitely the most rare of the lot.
The Epiphone NEWPORT DELUXE Bass was only made from 1961 until 1963.
There were not many shipped -- much less than their Gibson EB-3 counterparts. And I have seen maybe 2 or 3 for sale over the last 25 years.
While the Newport Bass continued on after 1963, it only remained as a one pickup version and had the updated "batwing" head stock. Epiphone wouldn't made a dual pickup 4-string bass again until the Embassy rolled out in 1965, which was their answer to the Gibson Thunderbird Bass.
Anyway.
As you can see, this Newport was refinished (a long time ago) in what I can only call a Red Cherry Sparkle. The previous owner did do a service by preserving the serial number within a little rectangle, which also subsequently retains the original finish.
The head stock veneer is original.
As are the pickups, electronics, knobs and all the other hardware.
There is a place where the thumb rest was moved to the E-string side, closer to the horn. You can see this in pics #2 and #11.
The control cavity cover has obviously been swapped out for some mirrored one.
Also the pickguard was broken in two places, which I highlighted in pics #13 and #14. This most likely occurred from over-tightening of the mounting screws.
There were no beaks or repairs to the body. The notch you see at the heel in pic #9 is a surface/finish crack and isn't structural.
The bass has been fully set up and -- in the time since the pictures were taken -- was strung with round wounds.
I am being meticulous about this because of the price I am asking. I want to be transparent and would prefer that the bass arrives to you being pleasantly surprised rather than upset about something that wasn't disclosed.
As I said above, I love this bass.
It plays so nice.
It functions as it should.
And oh boy does it sound amazing.
Also included is it's original blue-lined case, which falls somewhere in between chip board and semi-hard shell. Either way it's also in good shape!
Snag this up before i change my mind.
As with just about everything else I'm selling, I would actually love to keep this, but I need to make space and get cash for a move back across the country.
So, yeah, please look at my other listings!!!

***PLEASE READ BELOW!!!***
I am not a shop. I am an individual seller.
I will not make sound clips or videos, as I do not have the time or proper equipment to do so.
Please do not ask me to take apart, disassemble or take pictures of things. I will provide all necessary information as it's in my best interest to represent everything I'm selling in the best way possible.
If you have never owned a piece of vintage musical gear, do your own due diligence and buy/make an offer accordingly.
And speaking of offers, please do not waste my time or yours by low-balling me. I am accepting offers again because it's easier than getting a bunch of messages.
But I do not care about how you're "willing to give this pedal/amp/guitar/etc etc a try" for such and such amount.
I don't care if you've been collecting or playing or whatever for 10, 20 or a hundred years.
I'm always glad to have a chat and hear some stories, but I absolutely cannot stand tire kickers.
Okay, I'm done.
Thanks for reading.
