Kamaka Gold Label Soprano Ukulele with Wooden Tuning Pegs (Needs Work – Please read)

I am selling a vintage Kamaka gold label soprano ukulele presumably made of koa. It’s an interesting one because it has wooden tuning pegs, a gold label, and an unusual heel.

Wooden tuning pegs were phased out on Kamaka ukuleles in the thirties unless special ordered. There is no evidence on this instrument that the tuners are not original.

The Kamaka gold label was placed inside the sound hole of Kamaka ukuleles from the early 1950s to the late 1960s.

The “KK” headstock decal was used from 1954 until 2001.

Kamaka placed frets directly into the necks of their instruments until the 1960s. This ukulele has its frets directly in the neck.

As a result, this instrument was likely made in the 1950s, so it’s approximately 70 years old.

For its age, this Kamaka is in pretty good shape except for one thing: the first fret. Either the instrument needs a thorough setup or else a repair to the first fret is required. Further down (or is that up?) the fretboard it sounds like you’d expect a Kamaka to sound.

This is why the price is so low.

If you’re looking for a glossy, beautiful, pristine Kamaka ukulele that will impress your friends, this isn’t it, but with a relatively minor repair it will sound just fine.

Please research this Kamaka soprano ukulele carefully, study the photos closely, consider its condition, and ask all questions before purchasing.
