The large-case version of the Maxon OD-808, fitted with the glossy JRC4558D op-amp!

This is the Japan-market version of the "Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer Overdrive Pro," famously used by Stevie Ray Vaughan among others. Aside from the brand/model logo design and the DC jack (a full-size jack rather than a mini jack), the specs are equivalent. Its boost has a subtly compressed character reminiscent of human warmth, adding sheen and presence to the original tone. Several different op-amp chips were used across production runs; this unit is fitted with the glossy JRC4558D. Compared to units with the coarser, heavier-sounding RC4558P (Malaysian chip), this JRC4558D (glossy) version concentrates its range in the midrange, giving it a mild, smooth sound. Market prices for the "Ibanez TS-808" have climbed considerably. This model has similarly become a rare sight lately, though it remains somewhat easier to find than the TS-808 itself.
