Description:

Up for sale is a preowned 1994 Fender Custom Shop Robert Cray Signature Stratocaster in Three-Tone Sunburst with its original deluxe hardshell case and case candy. This is an early example of the USA Custom Shop Robert Cray model, dating from the formative John Page era of the Fender Custom Shop. Complete early examples like this are especially desirable, and this guitar retains its Custom Shop certificate signed by John Page along with its original case and accessories.

The early Robert Cray Stratocaster combines a select alder body with a bolt-on maple neck, slab rosewood fingerboard, 25.5" scale length, 21 vintage-style frets, and a 9.5" fingerboard radius. Three custom-wound vintage-style Stratocaster single-coils are paired with 5-way switching, while the string-through-body hardtail bridge is one of the defining features of the model. This 1994 example also retains the early chrome hardware specification, predating the later gold-hardware versions. The combination of vintage-style appointments, slab rosewood board, hardtail construction, and early Custom Shop provenance makes these early-’90s Robert Cray models a particularly interesting part of Fender Custom Shop history.

This example is in excellent condition and presents extremely cleanly for its age. There are two very small dings in the finish on the upper portion of the body along with normal playing scratches on the pickguard, but otherwise there is very little cosmetic wear to note. The frets remain in excellent condition. The original brown deluxe Fender hardshell case with gold interior is included along with the Fender Custom Shop certificate signed by John Page, ashtray-style bridge cover, original paperwork, and other period case candy.
