Yamaha M-40

I have way too many amplifiers in my collection so this one is looking for new owner. This amplifier is being offered in good working condition. There are the marks on this that one would expect on an amplifier of this age. This amplifier does have very clean and powerful sound. The output is listed as 120 watts @ .002 THD. The signal to noise ratio is a very good 127db which means that this amp will drive all but the most demanding speakers with ease. I used it with a pair of Klipsch KG5.5 speakers and it produced powerful bass and clean highs for as loud as I wished to play it. This would be a very good first amplifier for that son or daughter at college or anyone on a budget. It will accept speakers from 4 ohms thru 16 ohms. This isn't the most powerful amplifier that Yamaha produced however it is made with the same quality that Yamaha put into all of its amplifiers during this time frame and will provide excellent audio for you without breaking the bank. I have checked the BIAS (Idle Current) and set it per the service manual. The DC Offset was checked and it was very good, well within the specified range in the service manual. This amplifier will play in either Class A or Class AB. My hearing isn't good enough to tell a difference between the two settings so I just used it in Class AB as Class A does create quite a bit of heat and heat is the enemy of amplifiers.
