The domestic Japanese version of the TS9, featuring the popular "JRC4558D (glossy)" chip — this is the OD-9! Adds rich harmonics and pleasant compression without disturbing the original tone. Its sound range, centered on the midrange, has an exquisite width, and it has established itself as a standard tube-amp booster since the SRV era. The OD-9 is the Japan-market equivalent of the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer. Early units (circa 1981-82) and later units (circa 1983-84) differ in the casting shape of the housing. The back label was black until partway through 1982, after which it changed to white (silver). The op-amp used also changed over time, from JRC2043DD to JRC4558D to Toshiba TA75558P. Compared to the earlier TS808 (JRC4558D), the OD-9's revised tone circuitry extends both the high and low ends, especially the bass, resulting in a punchier, more articulate sound. This particular unit was manufactured around 1982.
Early-type cast case / black label version.
Board: MP-DO1201B
Op-amp: JRC4558D (glossy, #2349)
Made in Japan.
Era: 1982
Accessories: None
