This is a brand-new Martin Custom Shop HD-28 built with stunning figured Claro Walnut wood previously used in a Martin factory shelving unit, so you are literally buying a guitar made with a piece of the Martin Nazareth, PA factory. It was spec'd by Sweetwater but unfortunately got lost in shipment and made its way to me via an insurance auction after the shipment was later recovered. Includes all original paperwork, Sweetwater inspection certificate, Martin Custom Shop spec sheet, and molded hardshell case with all the tags still on it. Below is the product description from Sweetwater (who, for obvious reasons, doesn't have it available). It's truly a beautiful instrument and 1 of 1.

Spec’d by Sweetwater’s team of guitar experts, this Martin Custom Shop HD-28 Claro Walnut features tonewoods pulled straight from the Martin factory itself. Yes, this dreadnought’s stunning claro walnut back and sides originally sat on the Martin wall as part of a shelving unit before being reclaimed for a higher purpose! This claro walnut is a simply superb tonewood in both sight and sound, beaming with dense figuring and performing with a crisply balanced tone. Next, our guitar experts scoured through Martin’s stash for a premium Sitka spruce top, supporting it with scalloped forward-shifted Golden Era X-bracing to deliver maximum projection and low-end depth. Moreover, the GE Modified Low Oval neck profile offers a slick, satin-finished feel when navigating the ebony fingerboard. Timeless Style 28 accoutrements seal the deal, including herringbone purfling, white binding, and long diamond and square inlays. When you play the Martin Custom Shop HD-28 Claro Walnut, you’re quite literally holding a piece of Martin history.
Claro walnut reclaimed from the Martin factory
Stunning in appearance, this Sweetwater-spec Martin’s claro walnut back and sides hail from a former shelf within the brand’s Nazareth, Pennsylvania, factory. And while this timber’s historic origins certainly add to the Custom Shop HD-28’s appeal, our guitar experts selected this particular set of walnut from Martin’s stash primarily for its superb figuring and vibrant tone. Tonally, walnut rings with a sound similar to koa with sharp clarity, a lively midrange, and a firm bass response. Topside, this HD-28’s adventurous body construction is complemented by the wholly traditional pairing of a Sitka spruce top with scalloped forward-shifted Golden Era X-bracing to ensure a booming projection and touch-sensitive dynamics.
Setting the standard for steel strings everywhere
If there were such a thing as a “standard” acoustic guitar shape, it would undoubtedly be the dreadnought. It’s Martin’s most iconic model and a key component to the cannon-like projection and booming bass response that’s defined the Nazareth sound since the D-18 and D-28 appeared in the early 1930s — and even earlier if you count Martin’s “Ditson” models! Whether you’re a flatpicking bluegrass phenom or a singer/songwriter strummer, a Martin dreadnought will provide you with a lifetime’s worth of superior steel-string tone.
