Queen Brass B-flat flugelhorn. 152mm one-piece red brass bell. 11.00mm valve bore. Brushed satin bell with lacquer finish. Front/main-tuning slide movable. First and third valve slides plus main tuning slide fitted with amado water keys. Third valve slide has an auto trigger. Mouthpiece receiver: large shank (see the explanatory video). Queen Brass is a collaboration between Taiwan's Hoxon company - which handles OEM manufacturing and parts supply for Western brands - and Sanada Trading, which has long dealt in high-end Western brass brands. Hoxon insists on manufacturing its parts domestically in Taiwan, maintaining consistent quality, and that manufacturing know-how carries over into Queen Brass instruments.
A key feature of this instrument is the brushed satin lacquer finish applied to its 152mm red brass bell. The satin treatment is limited to the bell, while the valve casing and tuning slides retain a standard gloss finish. The red brass and satin bell combination gives a warm, soft resonance while still retaining clear outline and articulation, making it well suited to jazz and solo work as well as blending naturally in larger wind ensembles and combos.
Structurally, unlike a typical flugelhorn, the main tuning slide is placed toward the front of the instrument, trumpet-style, while the mouthpipe-side adjustment is still available, letting the player choose their preferred setup. The removable main tuning slide also makes cleaning the bore easier for day-to-day maintenance.
In addition to the large-shank mouthpiece, a trumpet-shank mouthpipe is included, adding to its practicality. Warm and soft, yet able to hold its outline where needed - this satin-bell version's balance, without leaning too far into 'typical flugelhorn' character, is its biggest appeal.
