A 1978 Fender Mustang.
The Mustang was introduced by Fender in 1964 as a student model aimed at beginners and younger players, expanding the electric guitar market. With its short-scale neck, dynamic vibrato-equipped bridge, and out-of-phase tones, it remains a versatile instrument used across many genres today.
This example has a white ash body with a maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard fitted using a round-board construction, in which the neck and fingerboard join along the radius of the board. The neck has a thick C-shape profile that's comfortable to hold, and thanks to the short scale it never feels too chunky.
The tone is mellow yet clearly focused, and it drives beautifully into crunch-to-distortion tones.
