1987 Yamaha RGX520J HH Super Strat - MIJ - Vintage White - EMG Pickups - Locking Tremolo

Here we have a 1987 RGX520J, which had been imported from Japan a few years back.

The RGX series was Yamaha's entry into the Super Strat market that dominated the mid to late '80s, with the 520J being one of the earlier offerings, releasing a year after the line had been introduced. These offered huge price-to-performance and were extremely popular options in the Japanese market at the time but are rarely seen in the West.

It features a basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, Yamaha RMX II locking tremolo, EMG Select humbucker pickups, passive electronics with a three-way selector switch, master volume, and a tone control with a push/pull function to split the humbuckers into single coils.

I took a chance on it because I've always really liked the look and heavy '80s vibe of these guitars, with the headstock design especially being one of my favorites, but it ended up needing a little more work than I expected, and since I'm a bassist, I'd prefer to sell it for what I paid to someone who's a little more familiar with guitars specifically and can make the most of it.

It plays well and sounds great but has a few quirks; most notably, the push/pull coil-split is stuck in the up position and will likely need fixing. Otherwise, all it needs is the obvious missing parts to be back in top shape, such as the tremolo arm, and locking nut screws, which are fairly easy replacements.

Condition: Good overall especially for its age. It's quite clean with a few obvious dings, scratches and signs of use such as the faded logos along the pickups, but nothing overly major.
