Professional Restoration & Calibration

This GX-635D has been fully restored and professionally calibrated by our technical team.

Every major operating function was verified, applicable mechanical assemblies were cleaned and re-lubricated, and electronic sections were inspected, serviced, measured, and adjusted for reliable long-term operation.

1. Mechanical Restoration

The tape transport mechanism was extensively serviced, including the reel tables, capstan system, pinch roller assembly, and tension arms.

Old lubricant and accumulated residue were removed from applicable moving assemblies, followed by careful cleaning and re-lubrication using premium synthetic lubricant and damping grease where appropriate.

A new genuine pinch roller and drive belt components were installed.

Brake bands were cleaned, inspected, and balanced for smooth and controlled tape stopping.

The capstan and reel motors were cleaned, inspected, adjusted, and checked for proper operating torque.

Reel movement, tape tension, forward playback, reverse playback, fast-forward, and rewind were tested extensively.

2. Electronic & Audio Restoration

Aging capacitors in the power supply and signal path were replaced as required using quality Nichicon and Panasonic components.

The power supply and audio signal paths were inspected and measured for stable operation.

Bias and EQ circuits were professionally calibrated for both 7½ IPS and 3¾ IPS.

Calibration was performed using professional reference equipment, including MRL test tape and oscilloscope measurements.

Record and playback alignment was adjusted for accurate operation.

Left and right channel levels were carefully matched, with final channel balance calibrated to approximately ±0.2 dB.

Logic relays and associated control circuits were also inspected and serviced.

3. Control System & Auto-Reverse

Switches, relays, control contacts, and related components were cleaned and inspected.

Solder joints in serviced areas were checked and reflowed where required.

The transport control system was repeatedly tested in play, reverse, fast-forward, rewind, stop, and record modes.

The auto-reverse logic and mechanical triggering system were also tested extensively for consistent operation.

4. Cosmetic Restoration

The machine was professionally cleaned and detailed throughout.

The exterior was carefully finished in its distinctive Custom Green color.

Knobs and controls were thoroughly cleaned and polished.

The VU meters were re-illuminated with warm-white LED lighting selected to maintain a classic vintage appearance.

The rear panel was fully cleaned, and RCA/DIN connections were treated with DeoxIT to help maintain clean electrical contact.

5. Final QC & Extended Testing

After restoration and calibration, the machine completed a continuous 3-hour playback and recording test.

During final QC we evaluated:
