Waterloo WL-14X TR Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (2015), Austin, TX, serial # 349.

The WL-14 is the flagship model of the Waterloo line, the guitar that started it all. This is a very early example from the first year or so of production, the "top of the line" WL-14X TR with both an X-braced top and an adjustable truss rod. This model has become quite popular over the last decade, generally considered one of the best examples of the new wave of "Vintage semi-reissue" instruments out there.

Basically the WL-14 began as a modern take on the Gibson-made Kalamazoo KG-14; the X-bracing and truss rod make this essentially a re-issue of the Gibson branded mid-1930s L-00. The black-and-white "tuxedo" look was used on some of the original models, and looks a cool now as it did during the depression! The construction, trim and finish are fairly basic but as with all Collings-made instruments very cleanly done. We feel this WL-14 X TR model is the best of these "retro-styled" instruments yet offered and a nice example of what a thoughtful re-imagining of a classic can be. This lightly-used decade old example is a very fine USA-made all-solid wood instrument for the price.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 5/16 in. (11 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 23/32 in. (44 mm.).

This decade-old guitar shows some fairly minor visible play wear, with one long scratch and a few pick marks into the finish to the top in the area above the strings. Apart from these marks it looks largely unplayed. A strap button was added to the heel, other than that there are no alterations. This is an excellent playing instrument, starting to age in and mature and it includes a the original hardshell case in similar condition with some handling marks. Overall Excellent Condition.
