A player-ready example of regional Midwestern luthiery, built by Jack Folkertsma under the brand name J. Folks or The J. Folks. He built dulcimers in Michigan starting in the 1980s into the 1990s. This one has his name carved into wood visible through the sound holes as well as there being a sticker affixed to the exterior of the dulcimer. This became a family operation that continued beyond his passing in 1996. Fairly rare trapezoid body shape accentuates the drone. The top and sides are solid woods, though the bottom may be a laminate (hard to tell due to glue lines versus laminate layers). Plays well up and down the fretboard.
