Cort Neck-Thru Early 80s Natural Wood Grain Electric Guitar

This rare ‘80s all-original Cort 5-piece Neck-Thru electric guitar was a prototype of the Cort modern G-series Stratocaster-styled guitars that came later. In the ‘70s and ‘80s Cort made guitars for several companies, including an Ibanez high-end model similar to this guitar that was a favorite of Bob Weir. The Cort logo is carved into the headstock. It has the original Cort tuning keys with a Accutune Kahler-style tremolo, and it has a string lock and fine-tune adjustable thumb screws on the tremolo bridge to insure proper pitch. The guitar is in very good condition and looks almost unused.

Brass on guitars was a trend in the ‘80s, so we have elegant brass dot inlays on the rosewood fingerboard. The frets have lots of life still in them. The tri-laminate thru-neck was typically made of walnut and maple, though it is hard to tell which is which. The wings are mahogany. This guitar weighs 9 lbs 10 oz. Whammy bar included.

The original electronics include a phase mini-toggle switch, a three-way pickup selector mini-toggle switch, two volume knobs, and a tone knob. These cream-colored high-output factory-installed humbucker pickups are either Cort Powersound or Mighty Mite.

I note this guitar as being made in Japan, but I can’t determine if this was made in Cort’s Japanese factory, or in its new-at-the-time South Korean factory, as these guitars were made at both locations. This was an early transitional era for Cort, introducing high-end, brass-accented Superstrat guitars under their own brand name, and expanding their manufacturing operations to South Korea. No case, but it will be safely shipped in bubble wrap.
