Built around a powerful Alnico 8 magnet and custom-gauge coil wire, the ELEV8 series marks Gibson’s first use of Alnico 8 in its pickup designs, delivering increased punch and authority while maintaining the articulation, clarity, and dynamic control players expect from a great humbucker.
Designed specifically for the neck—or Rhythm—position, the ELEV8 Underwound reduces average DC resistance to 8k for a more open response while retaining the tight low end and focused character of the ELEV8 platform. Gibson designed it to pair especially well with a standard ELEV8 in the bridge position, creating a vintage/modern combination that balances neck-position clarity with the bridge pickup's more powerful contemporary voice.
Four-conductor wiring opens the door to coil splitting and more advanced switching configurations, making the ELEV8 Underwound equally at home in straightforward dual-humbucker guitars and more versatile modern wiring setups. The pickup is wax potted to help control unwanted feedback and features Double Black bobbins beneath a classic nickel cover.
