Kay Pro Series Speed Demon

I believe this is from 1959, but can’t say with absolute certainty. What I can say is it looks and plays amazing!

What I found on the internet was that these were produced from late 1959 thru 1965. The Pro Series Thinline is a hollowbody guitar with a unique vintage sound. It has a laminated curly maple top and back that is hand rubbed and polished to a natural blonde finish. Amazing checkerboard binding on the top. The sides are finished in black. The body is bound top and back with a striking black and white inlay on the top surface. Three "high fidelity" speed bump pickups are mounted to the top of the guitar and selected with a chicken-beak, rotary switch. Each pickup has separate volume and tone knobs. The guitar has an ajustable bolt-on, steel reinforced, maple neck. The rosewood 24" Scale fretboard is fitted with pearlette block position markers, nickel silver frets and a bone nut. The headstock has the scripted Kay logo over a closed V chevron and closed back tuners with plastic knobs.

I believe it is all original save for maybe the bridge and tuners (or maybe just the buttons). Action is perfect and it plays very well.

The electronics will need a work - the guitar functions as-is, but the pickups are noisy, which could be a grounding issue. I’m not a tech so can’t say exactly what would be needed, but it could use some love. Does not come with a case, but I’ll find a gig bag to include and ship it with. Sold as-is, no returns. Your shot at a super cool unique, and rare Kay that needs a little work to get back to 100% but plays really well.
