This unit has had one single owner, and was pulled from a home multimedia studio. This unit was entirely triggered by midi, as both the Rec Level and Main Volume knobs still have the original turn resistance.

The theme and scheme with this unit was, aside from the restoration and expansions, was to keep it as close to the OG, original 1989 specifications as possible.

Cleanest, Fully Future Proofed unit on Reverb - Professionally refreshed and rebuilt to BANG for another 35+ years. We've intentionally maxed out every aspect of this machine to the furthest possible, while retaining the original design heritage.

This is an original (120V) unit, safely and professionally fitted with a new MeanWell internal PSU (power supply unit), internally chassis grounded.

We followed the original Akai factory specification and process for modding the mainboard with the '4M Mod'. The S1000 was originally designed for a maximum of 8MB (4x 2MB cards). To move beyond this limitation, expanding maximum memory capacity, this mod was performed, as well as fitting the unit with 32MB across 4x clean, original AKAI 8MB cards.

• Internally and externally cleaned (internal chassis still has the iridescent factory finish) - This unit looks like it just arrived from 1989, down to the condition, packaging, and original accessories.
• Original Toshiba OSv2.0 EPROMS pulled, and reflashed with the latest OS v4.40
• New ZuluSCSI 2026 USB-C drive, GREEN LED version with black bracket, and new SCSI ribbon cable. Akai (赤い) is the adjective used to describe something as red.
• 20x new 16GB SD cards, individually formatted and partitioned (A-F). SD card includes 180-210+ libraries on EACH SD card.
  
  Over 60GB/55 CD-ROMs of libraries from 1994-2005 of AKAI S1000/S1100/S3000/MPC sample libraries from classic Roland analog synths and drum machines, 808s, 909s, Juno, Jupiter, DX7, Moog, Prophet, Oberheim, Mellotron synths, and 1990's vintage multi-sample libraries containing basses, guitars, pads, leads, wind instruments, orchestral sounds and samples, drum breaks, drum kits, analog and digital FX, and much more.
• Old buzzy inverter removed
• New, Crisp Stonewash denim Blue LED module (No filters used in photos, however display color is slightly deeper than how it appears in photos), with full contrast control. In the photos, contrast knob is set to 12 o'clock
  
  We usually reach for the high contrast indigo displays, however to keep this built true to the original specification, a blue color scheme closest to the original design was chosen.
• 32MB/16MWords of RAM across 4 RAM slots (4x8MB cards), as seen in photos
• Removed original ELCO power supply, replaced with NEW production grade, high amperage high headroom Mean Well Power Supply. Professionally grounded to chassis.
  
  Silent, cool running, and efficient heat dissipation. PSU manually calibrated for precise, regulated output.
  
  No modifications to Akai chassis or Mean Well PSU were necessary.

• Original NOS SCSI card seated in rear slot for SCSI connectivity and expandability
• 16 voice polyphony
• All Original Knobs, visible wear around edges, though strictly cosmetic. No 3D printed bits.
• Clean, original rack ears
• Includes original product box from 1989, with original foam reinforcement and original shipping sleeve.

• Includes Original English manual, Original Japanese/English manual, Original OS Addendum manual.
  
  If you’re looking at this, then you know the legacy and heritage of this classic unit. The S1000 is the one with that 16BIT PUNCH.
