This YAS-480 is one of the cleaner ones I’ve had lately. Near mint, not much to hide. A little light handling if you look close, but no heavy wear and nothing that jumps out. It went through a professional service a few days before listing, I play tested it more than once afterward, and it’s sitting in tune. Tone holes are in great shape. Pads are sealing with no leaks. The sound is fuller than a student alto and still easy to control — that Yamaha core with enough projection when you want it.

The mechanism feels sorted. Keys travel evenly, springs come back quickly, and nothing feels sloppy under the fingers. Quiet playing still speaks, and it doesn’t fall apart when you put more air through it. Low notes open up without a fight and the upper register stays centered. After the service and the extra play tests, it feels like a finished horn, not one that still needs a shop visit.

The 480 is Yamaha’s current intermediate alto. It takes a lot of its layout from the 62 family and uses the 480 neck, so you get a more grown-up response without paying Custom money. A lot of advancing players use these because they stay consistent and don’t need constant attention.
