OME Tupelo Openback Banjo: 12 Inch Cherry Tone Rim, Built to Order in the USA
The OME Tupelo is a 5-string openback banjo built almost entirely from American cherry: a 12 inch cherry tone rim, a cherry neck and a cherry paddle headstock. Rickard Cyclone tuners, an ebonite rim cap and aged brass hardware finish it. Available from Banjo Warehouse, an OME dealer in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Built to order. OME builds each Tupelo after it is ordered, in its shop in Titusville, Florida. When it arrives here, our banjo tech Tara gives it a full professional setup before it ships to you. Call Geoff at (404) 218-8580 for the current build time.
Why the Tupelo?
The Tupelo is a wood-first openback. There is no metal tone ring; the 12 inch cherry rim and a Remo Renaissance head produce the sound, which suits old-time music. OME adds an ebonite cap on the rim for extra mass, and a wooden rim rod in place of metal coordinator rods.
The Pot
12 inch cherry 2-ply tone rim with an ebonite rim cap and tortoise shell binding. 14 brackets with an aged brass tension hoop. Remo Renaissance head. Sweetone tailpiece. 5/8 inch OME bridge. Wooden rim rod. Wooden armrest. Tung oil finish.
The Neck
Cherry neck with a tung oil finish and an ebony-capped heel. Rosewood fingerboard with brass dot inlays and brass dot side markers. 17 hardened nickel frets. Two-way dual action truss rod. Cherry paddle headstock with an ebony cap and Rickard Cyclone 10:1 tuners with tortoid buttons. 1 11/32 inch nut, 25 1/2 inch scale.

Is the OME Tupelo made in the USA?
Yes. OME builds the Tupelo in Titusville, Florida and stamps its origin on the instrument. OME was founded in Boulder, Colorado in 1960 and is now part of Gold Tone Music Group.
