Gibson Mastertone PB-Florentine 1928

EXC, This banjo is one of five PB-Florentine banjos ordered late in 1927 by John and Bill Mitchell, and is featured in many early Gibson catalogs. The Mitchell Brothers played vaudeville and toured extensively in the 1930's with country singer Carson J. Robison. The plectrum-necked Pre-World War Gibson Florentine banjo is very rare with an estimated total production of only 40. This banjo originally featured a raised-head 40-hole tone ring but was returned to Gibson in 1939 and retro-fitted with a pre-war factory original full-weight high-profile flathead tone ring. All the wood components of this banjo have been over-sprayed with additional “white holly” color finish, and the interior of the resonator has been sanded and refinished in clear. All the metal hardware has been re-plated, the etched scenes of Venice on the fingerboard have been restored, and the fingerboard has been re-fretted. All of work was carried out by Renee Karnes.
