Both cymbals feature striking combinations of heavily hammered/raw-looking surfaces and contrasting lathed areas, giving them a distinctive boutique appearance as well as an earthy, complex musical character.

Rather than pairing two random crashes together, these work extremely well as a complementary 18"/20" setup. Both are relatively light for their respective sizes, respond easily under the stick, and produce a broad, organic wash without the harsh or overly glassy character of many brighter modern crashes.

Sonic Splice Notes

These are two of the more unusual cymbals I have had through the shop, and they make much more sense to me as a pair than they do individually. I have included separate sound demos so you can hear the general voice of each cymbal and the tonal relationship between them. Keep in mind that the cellphone recording does not fully capture how warm, deep, and complex they sound in person.

The 18" Minotaur weighs only 1345 grams and responds very easily. It has a dark, earthy attack followed by a complex wash, with the contrasting surface treatments helping give it a voice that feels less polished and predictable than a conventional bright crash.

The 20" Master’s Finest Selection No.1 comes in at 1710 grams, which keeps a 20" crash remarkably responsive. It adds a deeper, broader voice and substantially more spread while maintaining the same organic overall character.

Together, the 18" and 20" give you a natural high/low crash combination without sounding overly separated from one another. There is enough difference in pitch and size to make each cymbal useful on its own, but they share a similar earthy, complex tonal palette that makes the pairing feel intentional.

If you like darker Turkish-style cymbals, complex hand-hammered voices, or crashes that become part of the texture of the music rather than simply producing a bright accent, this is a particularly interesting pair.
