JCM800 2203KK Kerry King Signature – 2010 – Excellent Condition

A superb 2010 Marshall JCM800 2203KK Kerry King Signature, presented in excellent overall condition and recently given a full check-over and test.

Developed in collaboration with Kerry King of Slayer, the 2203KK takes the legendary 100-watt JCM800 2203 platform and pushes it firmly into heavier territory. At its heart is the familiar single-channel, all-valve 2203 architecture, but with Marshall's additional Beast circuit built directly into the amplifier.

Engaging The Beast brings in the 2203KK's additional gain circuitry together with the Assault and Gate controls. Assault allows the low-end response to be increased for a heavier, more aggressive feel, while the built-in noise gate helps keep high-gain playing tight and controlled. With The Beast disengaged, the amplifier returns to a much more traditional JCM800-style signal path.

It's a clever design because the 2203KK isn't simply a one-dimensional metal amp. There's still that familiar Marshall 2203 character underneath — tight lows, aggressive upper mids, huge attack and exceptional dynamics — with the additional circuitry available when considerably more aggression is required.

This particular example dates from 2010 and is in excellent cosmetic condition, with the black elephant-grain covering, grille cloth, gold control panel and distinctive Kerry King graphics all presenting extremely well.

Internally, the amplifier is very clean and is currently fitted with a quartet of JJ KT88 power valves, together with JJ preamp valves. The KT88 output section is an important part of the 2203KK's character, giving the amp enormous headroom, a particularly firm bottom end and a more muscular response than a conventional EL34-equipped 2203.

The amplifier has recently been through a full professional check-over and testing, with everything operating correctly and ready to use.

The 2203KK is one of the more interesting variations Marshall produced on the classic 2203 formula. It retains the simplicity and immediacy that makes a good JCM800 so effective, but adds a genuinely useful second personality when The Beast is engaged.

With its KT88 output section, built-in gate and additional gain, there's an enormous amount of power and authority available — yet underneath it all remains one of Marshall's most celebrated amplifier designs.
