Made in Japan as part of ESP's short-lived LTD Elite Series, the Horizon-III FR combines high-end Japanese construction with the distinctive extended-horn Horizon-III body shape and a performance-focused feature set.

The guitar features neck-through construction with an alder body, flamed maple top, maple neck, and ebony fingerboard. Its 25.5" scale, Thin U neck profile, 24 extra-jumbo frets, and deep body contours make it exceptionally comfortable for fast playing and easy access across the entire fingerboard.

This example has been upgraded from its original Seymour Duncan Custom 5/Jazz pickup configuration to a Seymour Duncan Nazgûl bridge and Sentient neck humbucker set. The Nazgûl provides a powerful, aggressive bridge voice with excellent definition under high gain, while the Sentient offers a clearer and more articulate neck sound suitable for leads, cleans, and lower-gain playing.

A coil-tap/split modification has also been professionally added, expanding the tonal range beyond the standard dual-humbucker configuration and allowing access to brighter, more single-coil-like sounds.

The Floyd Rose tremolo system provides excellent tuning stability for expressive pitch work, while Gotoh tuners and quality Japanese construction round out a serious performance instrument.

About the LTD Elite Series

The LTD Elite Series occupied a unique place in ESP's lineup. Introduced as a premium, Japanese-made range, these instruments offered construction and appointments considerably above ESP's standard LTD production models. The series was short-lived before ESP reorganized its Japanese factory-produced lineup under the E-II name.

The Horizon-III FR was designed as a high-performance version of ESP's Horizon platform, with its extended upper horn, deep contours, neck-through construction, and 24-fret layout emphasizing upper-fret access and modern playability.

This guitar has received two particularly useful modifications:

Seymour Duncan Nazgûl/Sentient Pickup Set
The original Custom 5/Jazz combination has been replaced with Seymour Duncan's Nazgûl/Sentient pairing. The Nazgûl is a high-output bridge humbucker designed for tight, articulate high-gain tones, while the Sentient provides a versatile neck voice with clarity for leads and cleans.

Coil Tap/Split
Additional switching has been installed to split the humbuckers, substantially expanding the guitar's available tonal palette beyond its original dual-humbucker configuration.

These modifications make an already high-performance Japanese Horizon particularly well suited for modern rock, metal, progressive, and technically demanding playing styles while retaining considerably more versatility than a conventional high-output two-humbucker setup.
