A 1983 BOSS SD-1 fitted with the NEC C4558C op-amp!
Carries forward the asymmetric overdrive circuit from the OD-1, adding a new tone control for treble boost/cut. Refinements to the circuit give it a slightly higher-gain, more solid character than the OD-1 to the ear. It produces a sweet, mild drive without killing subtle picking nuance. The op-amp is the early-production NEC C4558C, a comparatively rare example with a 6-digit stamped serial and a Taiwan-made board. Later units used the JRC4558D (circa 1982) and, subsequently, the JRC4558DD found in most SD-1s. This unit also has screw-fixed control knobs and solid-shaft pots. SD-1 production remained in Japan until roughly mid-1989, after which manufacturing moved to Taiwan.
Board: ET5212-510B (Taiwan-made board)
OP-IC: NEC C4558C (#M1796E)
ACA adapter compatible
Note: Battery snap has been replaced; slight battery-leakage residue in the battery compartment.
Era: 1983
Accessories: None
