The Gibson ES-137 is so rare that this is the first one I've seen. It is the high-end version from the Memphis Custom Shop with beautifully flamed top, as well as custom specs like the split-diamond headstock and inlays, ebony fingerboard and great bindings on body, neck and headstock. Basically you have a "best of" many ES guitars from Gibson: visually close to the ES-135, but with center block and stoptail/tailpiece construction like the ES-335 and with Varitone circuitry like the ES-355. Sonically the first choice when it comes to Jazz, Blues, but also Rock: thanks to the center block you have no problems with feedback and the two 57-Classic pickups turn out to be incredibly versatile for all styles. On top of that, it offers an incredible playing feel with a rich, comfortable, but not overly chunky rounded C-profile neck. Weighting 4,190kgs.
The Story Behind the Guitar:
This guitar belongs to my neighbor, who is now nearly 90 years old. He bought it brand new when he retired with the intention of learning to play, but unfortunately, he never did. Since he is not tech-savvy or familiar with online marketplaces, he asked me to list and sell it for him, knowing that I regularly deal with music gear.
As a result, this guitar has been safely resting in its case since 2008, only opened occasionally when a visiting musician wanted to try it out. You can expect a true mint-condition instrument: completely original, with absolutely no scratches, dings, or fret wear. I temporarily removed the pickguard to check for any finish fading or discoloration, and I can confirm the top color is perfectly even and flawless underneath. You can see it on some of the photos.
