1950 Gibson ES-175 A-serial Burst Finish Guitar w. Lifton Case
Offered in this listing is a Gibson ES-175 acoustic electric guitar, the A prefix and the serial serial number dates it to have been manufactured in 1950 in Kalamazoo, Michigan USA.
The guitar is overall in remarkably nice condition, despite signs of age and use. Whoever played it around here commented on its nice playability and clean sound.
The guitar is to 95% original; we noticed a replacement set of correct Kluson Deluxe single line tuners over what appears to have been a previous installation of 2 strip tuners at one time. Consequently there are some extra holes in the headstock, mostly hidden under the correct Kluson tuners.
The stock nut was replaced with a synthetic nut, a strap button was installed on top of the treble side body, as it was common to do. Due to the odd and uneven cut-out around the original P90 pickup we are not 100% certain if the pickguard is the original one back from 1950. One more thing to mention, the tone knob, while fully functional has an internal crack resulting in the silverish appearance in the center.
The guitar came to us housed in a period correct Lifton case, the original handle was replaced for safety reasons, as it was to fragile to be trusted. The original does come with the case.
The guitar is overall an excellent condition player with the modifications mentioned, as it can be expected on an instrument 76 years of age in order to keep it in good playing condition. The finish has almost no cracking other than minor marks throughout, it features overall a very nice and appealing patina contributing to a vintage feel that gives it an instant familiar feel. Other than that there are some noticeable lines near the input jack, please check the detail picture we included with the pictures posted.
Attached is also a link to a video on YouTube giving a brief sound sample that we recorded. In comparison to the still pictures posted here, the color in the video is much closer to the original, whereas the still pictures appear to be a bit too reddish. The guitar has a true tobacco burst finish appearance when viewed in person, not a sunburst appearance with red accents, as it may appear in the still pictures posted.
