The J-45 was introduced in 1942 as the successor to the J-35 and has since become one of Gibson's most iconic acoustic guitar models.

The Ebony Black finish was produced for only a short period in the late 1960s. This rare finish has since been recreated by the Gibson Custom Shop and is now available as part of the regular Original Collection, which faithfully reproduces vintage specifications.

This is a 2014 Gibson Custom Shop 1960s J-45 Ebony ADJ VOS.

The contrast between the black body and white pickguard gives this J-45 a completely different character from the familiar Sunburst finish. The Ebony finish was a rare color that actually existed around 1968 and has long attracted attention among vintage guitar collectors. In Japan, the model has also become widely recognized through its use by Kazuyoshi Saito.

It delivers the powerful, percussive attack characteristic of Gibson, combined with the warm, full-bodied mid and low frequencies associated with the brand. When played with a hard pick, the guitar produces a crisp, gritty attack that is one of the distinctive charms of a Gibson. Few guitars are as naturally suited to accompanying vocals as this model.

While many modern Gibson models come equipped with pickups as standard, this guitar is a completely acoustic, non-pickup-equipped specification.

There are some light surface scratches and small dings here and there. Combined with the VOS finish, which intentionally recreates the appearance of an aged instrument, these give the guitar a tasteful, well-worn character. The playing condition is good, with relatively little overall use.

This is an iconic-looking J-45 that combines exceptional stage presence with the powerful Gibson sound.
