Honey Wave Vintage Transformer Pair Switcher Barely Used

Up for sale is a very cool and unusual handmade Honey Wave Vintage Transformer Pair Switcher, loaded with three stereo pairs of vintage 1:1 line transformers that can be switched individually or used together in any combination.

If you're familiar with Honey Wave, you know them for building unique transformer boxes like this. This particular unit is extremely well built, with relay-controlled switching throughout, and everything works exactly as it should.

Inside are three different stereo pairs of vintage transformers:

• UTC A-20
• Opamp Labs T-25
• Triad A-67J

Each pair is placed on its own relay-activated loop. With none of the transformer switches engaged, the transformers are completely bypassed and the signal passes directly from the inputs to the outputs.

Engage one transformer pair and you can add its particular character to the signal, or engage any combination of the three pairs at the same time and stack them for additional coloration. This makes the box a really fun and useful tool for experimenting with transformer tone on a mix bus, drum bus, stems, individual tracks, keyboards, or just about anything else you want to run through it.

It's also a fantastic way to add some analog color and transformer character to in-the-box mixes. Send a stereo bus or stem out of your DAW, experiment with the different transformer combinations, and bring it back in. You get three different flavors of vintage iron in one box without needing three separate pieces of outboard gear.

There is also a "TERM" switch that engages matched 600-ohm terminating resistors before the XLR outputs. Depending on the equipment feeding or following the unit, this gives you another way to experiment with how the transformers are loaded and how the circuit responds.

On the rear of the unit there is an additional switch that allows you to lift XLR Pin 1 from chassis ground, which can be useful when integrating the box into different studio setups.

This is one of those boxes that doesn't try to tell you exactly what you're supposed to do with it. Put it across a stereo source and experiment. Use one pair, compare it with another, stack two, stack all three, try the termination switch and use your ears. It can be subtle or used to add additional transformer character depending on the source and combination.

I am the original and only owner, and this unit is essentially unused with extremely low hours. I have accumulated so much analog outboard equipment that my collection simply outgrew my need for this particular piece, so it has spent far more time sitting safely in the studio than actually being used. That's the only reason I'm letting it go—it really is a fantastic and unique little box.
