The good stuff…

This is the kind of vintage Gibson we love finding at Billy’s Guitars. Not a museum piece that spent its life under a bed, and not a guitar that’s been restored until its history disappeared. This is a real 1965 SG Junior with six decades of honest character, beautiful cherry fade, checking, bumps, scratches and all the little signs that somebody actually played the thing.

And it absolutely begs to be played. The neck feels superb, the action is excellent, and that single P-90 into a good tube amp is a reminder of why the SG Junior became such a legend in the first place. One pickup. Two knobs. A slab of old mahogany. Nothing you don’t need and everything you do.

We purchased this guitar directly from the family of its longtime/original owner and have deliberately taken a preservation-first approach with it. We documented the electronics, confirmed period-correct 1965 CTS pots, inspected the instrument carefully, and stopped where further disassembly risked disturbing original vintage parts. At 61 years old, it has earned the right to keep a few secrets.

This one is priced unapologetically at the top of the market because we don’t particularly care if it sells tomorrow. It looks fantastic hanging in the shop, and we’re perfectly happy to wait for the person who has been looking for this SG Junior.

No rush. No fire sale. Just a killer old Gibson waiting for its next caretaker.
