Up for sale is my 1991 Martin D-41. I’ve owned this guitar for approximately 4–5 years, and it’s a fantastic example of an older, well-played Martin dreadnought. These early-'90s D-41s don’t come up for sale all that often, and I’m genuinely going to miss this one.
The guitar has that big, loud, boomy rosewood Martin sound you’d expect from a D-41. It’s a great sounding and playing guitar with plenty of volume.
It currently has upgraded Gotoh tuners, which were installed without drilling any additional holes. The original tuners are included. It also has an upgraded Holter pickguard and newer Martin Liquidmetal bridge pins.
There is a Fishman Matrix undersaddle pickup installed with no onboard volume or tone controls. I'm unsure of the age of the pickup.
The action is currently in the low-to-medium range, the neck appears fairly straight, and the frets are in decent condition. It plays well as it sits. I do not know whether the guitar has ever had a neck reset or what repair/service work may have been performed before I owned it.
For a guitar that's approximately 35 years old, I would consider it to be in good overall condition, but it has absolutely been played and shows normal wear from its age and use. There are various marks and finish wear that I've tried to capture honestly in the photos.
There are also a few areas in the finish that visually resemble sticker or adhesive residue, although there is no actual residue that I can feel. When you run your finger across these areas, the finish feels smooth and even. I'm not sure what caused the appearance—it may simply be related to the age of the finish. I've tried to photograph these areas clearly rather than hide them.
I am not aware of any cracks or crack repairs, but I also don't know the guitar's complete history prior to my ownership. Please review the photos closely for the best representation of its cosmetic condition.
Upgrades / Included:
- Gotoh tuners currently installed
- Original tuners included
- Holter pickguard
- Martin Liquidmetal bridge pins
- Fishman Matrix undersaddle pickup
- Sturdy dreadnought hardshell case (I am unsure whether the case is an original Martin case)
All in all, this is a great old D-41 that has been played, has plenty of character, and sounds exactly like you'd hope an older rosewood Martin dreadnought would sound.
