Made in China in 2008, this beautiful Epiphone Viola Bass features a stunning vintage sunburst finish. Inspired by the legendary 1960s British Invasion, this hollowbody violin-style bass delivers that classic, warm, and woody "thud" tone that defined an era. In hand, the neck features a comfortable, medium-C profile that fills out your palm nicely without feeling overly chunky or club-like. Because it is a short-scale instrument, the frets sit noticeably closer together than on a standard bass, meaning you won't have to stretch your hand awkwardly to hit low notes. The neck is also significantly narrower at the nut than a standard Precision Bass, making it feel very fast and nimble—especially when moving quickly up and down the fretboard. It has a smooth, glossy finish on the back that gives it a solid, premium feel as your thumb glides along it. Sonically, the dual mini-humbuckers pump out a deep, warm midrange presence with plenty of clarity. Isolating the neck pickup serves up that signature 1960s "Beatle thud"—a thick, woody, and pillowy low-end that sits perfectly under an acoustic or classic rock mix. Dialing in the bridge pickup introduces a tight, punchy mid-range snap, making the bass versatile enough to cross over into classic country, blues, and indie pop tracking. Cosmetically, this bass shows honest playwear from previous use showing some very minor scratches on the body. The intonation is spot on, the action is excellent and there is little to no fret wear apparent from previous use. This bass has been professionally set up with new strings and weighs in at a comfortable 6 pounds, 15 ounces.
