In the year 2000, a friend was selling this almost unplayed, near perfect Gibson EB 2. I told another friend, a retired bass player, that he should buy it. We all met at a music store to get a value. The bass changed hands. The first friend had kept it in the closet for 35 years. The second had it in HIS closet for another 25 years! 60 years in hiding! I bought it from the second Friend two years ago. I’m 81 and I’m still gigging, playing bass, but this baby has been staying… in MY closet!!!
The Bass Is Special. Besides being in almost new condition it is a historical, factory transitional bass. The neck is the original fat, chunky 1958 profile, 1 11/16” at the nut. From 1966 on, the EB 2 had the slimmer, narrow neck profile. The chrome hardware and transparent cherry finish were not officially standard until 1966.

The bass has no issues. It plays like a dream. It is all original and it includes the original gold plush lined case. Brass badges on the side say “Gibson“ and “H&H Music Co.“—The legendary Houston pipeline for Gibson and Fender in the 1960s.

Nothing has been changed to my knowledge. See photos of the condition. I took a closeup photo of every blemish I could find but even those are very small.

It has a 2 stamped below the serial number indicating that it was a factory second but many Gibsons left the factory with that 2

The electronics, including the baritone button, work great. Notice: When you push the baritone button/switch up and down there is a crackle. This could be fixed with a little spray of electronics cleaner but I don’t want to alter it in any way. It doesn’t crackle after you push the switch.

Serial number 367485 (2)
