Kay Value Leader K1961 - Early 1960s - Sunburst - USA
Price: $499.99
Condition: Good
Up for sale is an early-1960s Kay Value Leader model #1961 (K1961) in dark brown sunburst, made in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The K1961 was the single-pickup model in Kay’s Value Leader series and is documented within the 1960-1965 production period.
Factory specifications for the Value Leader #1961 include a thinline laminated-maple body, steel-reinforced neck, rock-maple fingerboard, single pickup, volume and tone controls, adjustable maple bridge, trapeze tailpiece, body binding, and chrome-plated guardplate.
This example retains the characteristic single chrome-covered pickup, checkerboard-pattern metal guardplate, maple fingerboard with red position markers, wooden adjustable bridge, trapeze tailpiece, black volume/tone knobs, open-back strip tuners, and Kay headstock badge. The visible components appear substantially period-correct, but absolute originality has not been internally authenticated.
The guitar shows age-appropriate cosmetic wear, including notable finish loss/chipping at the rear headstock tip, additional finish wear on the rear neck/headstock area, scattered scratches and handling wear, edge/binding wear, and normal aging/tarnish to the hardware and metal guardplate. No obvious headstock break, major body crack, or structural repair is visible.
The guitar has been fully tested and functions properly.
Repair and modification history is unknown, so no claim of complete originality is being made.
No case or gig bag is included.
