1988 Yamaha C7 Grand Piano — Immaculate Condition, Exceptional Instrument

Offered for sale is my 1988 Yamaha C7 Grand Piano, an exceptional instrument in impeccable, excellent condition.

This piano was previously owned by actress Deborah Rennard. It was handpicked for Deborah at the Yamaha factory by a dear friend of hers, who specifically selected this particular C7 for her.

During Deborah’s ownership, the piano was kept in her Manhattan loft condominium and was played only sparingly. After that, it came to my residence, exactly where you see it in the photographs.

This piano has never been used in a recording studio environment. I never rented studio time around it, never had musicians coming through playing it, and never used it commercially. I occasionally sat down and dabbled on it here and there, but for the most part it simply remained in my residence and was extremely lightly used.

It has been professionally tuned quarterly throughout the year and meticulously maintained. The piano is also equipped with a humidifier system.

My longtime piano technician, Mike, whose parents owned a piano store, began playing piano when he was four years old and has played, tuned and worked around hundreds of Yamaha C7s. He has also toured professionally.

After maintaining and playing this piano, Mike told me:

“Do not sell this instrument. It’s the best Yamaha C7 I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Another special feature is the keyboard. These are ivory-coated keys rather than the old solid-ivory type. In my experience, they play much better and do not have the same clunky feel, yellowing and tarnishing associated with old solid ivory keys. The keys and action feel exceptional.

1988 is said within the industry to be one of the very best years for the Yamaha C7, particularly for recording. That period marked a time when Yamaha made improvements to the C7, followed by additional changes a few years later. The 1988 C7 has long been spoken of as an especially desirable sounding version, and this particular piano has a warmer tone that comes through a mix beautifully.

The only reason I am selling this piano is because I am moving out of state and cannot take it where I am going. Otherwise, I would keep it. I hope it goes to a good owner because this is a genuinely special piano.
