I have a 2022 Fender Mod Shop Stratocaster here with its original hard shell case and paperwork.
Conditionally, this guitar looks great.
The body top shows just minimal surface guitar pick strumming on the plastic pickguard. Any similar superficial swirling will be absolutely minimal on the body. There will be just faint traces of use only on the body.
The body sides and edges look excellent across the perimeter. I didn't find any bumps or chips. Any superficial signs of use will be minimal.
The body back shows some light playwear on the plastic back plate. There is a little of that that spills over onto the body wood, mostly on the upper horn area where the tummy cut starts. There's a little bit of surface signs of use there, but nothing I would quantify as buckle rash or worming. I would say it's about the same intensity as guitar pick strumming. There's some of that scattered here and there, but not an accumulation or a built up all over sheen. More so a light amount of scattered, light swirling type signs of use back here. Overall, it looks very nice. I didn't find any heavy playwear of any sort, and I didn't find any dings, bumps, or singular marks.
The neck shaft contour looks and feels excellent, with nothing to report there. The headstock likewise looks great. I did not find any chips, dings, or bumps. The frets are tall and full. I see some light signs of use on the first few G string frets, but nothing sinking in deep. Pretty much just the beginning of signs of use. See the string spread picture for this.
The guitar plays fantastic. It's set up nicely and is easy to play. The electronics are working as they should. Everything works perfectly there. The hard shell case is in excellent condition.
This one rates anywhere from an 8.9 to a 9.2 depending on how critical we are, which is right at the junction between very good and excellent. I will grade it as excellent. It makes the cut for me. The body and cosmetics look very nice. I found just some light surface swirling type playwear on the body back, but no marks of note and no heavy clusters of any playwear. The overall sheen and luster of the gloss finish looks excellent. I found very light signs of use on a few frets, but overall the frets are tall and meaty. The guitar is structurally and sonically sound and looks, sounds, and plays great.
So this guitar is quite a spec'd out Strat. There are a couple features here that were further customized beyond the Fender Mod Shop. It has locking tuners that are a drop in replacement. Note the reverse headstock is a stock Fender Mod Shop choice.
The electronics are a drop in pre wired EMG David Gilmour set. Feel free to research that pickup set. I will give you my player's perspective on it.
For one, it is completely quiet and devoid of the background hum that plagues single coil pickups. If you take your hand off the strings, you still have a nice quiet background without hum blaring through.
The two tone knobs are not traditional tone knobs. The middle knob is like a boost function. When you turn it down to zero, you still have a full, clear, articulate, non muddy tone. When you turn it to 10, you have a powerful high output sound comparable to a humbucker, perhaps even more powerful than most humbuckers. This is similar to the Eric Clapton Stratocaster.
The lower tone knob near the output jack shapes the balance of highs and lows. So you can get a scooped sound, you can get a balanced sound in the middle, or you can get enhanced highs and mids. So those two tone knobs are for shaping the tone. I find that more useful than a traditional tone knob because I have found on Stratocasters that turning the tone knob down muddies the tone and sucks the tone. This doesn't suck tone. It shapes tone.
Note that it is still a true single coil Stratocaster pickup. It's not a stacked pickup that is just shaped like a Strat pickup. It has a similar touch response and high frequency response that you know and recognize as the Strat sound. The active pickup aspect of it does fatten it a little bit, although that can be tailored to your preference with the two tone knobs.
The Fender mod shop is pretty much the highest level of guitar they make outside of the custom shop. And it is a unique one off creation as all the Mod shop models are. That is a big part of their appeal. It is essentially a limited edition of 1/1 . Though made to the same high American standard as the professional II series and Vintage American series.
Note that this listing may come down at any time as I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally and on my own Site as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged on Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that into your purchase.
I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.
