Here’s another interesting one you don’t come across every day. 1973 Martin D 41. This was one of Martin’s higher end offerings back in the 70s. They put a little extra love into it with abalone inlay binding, abalone inlay fret markers, vertical CF Martin inlay on the head and that Great Martin volute!

This one is in exceptional condition. There are a few finish dings and scrapes here and there but nothing serious. There’s a bit of a ripple in the face of the guitar, but No cracks. There is some play wear around the sound hole to let you know somebody has loved this amazing guitar. The finish is in great shape and overall it’s a very, very clean guitar!

It’s a consignment sale for a local player/collector, and the owner says he hasn’t touched it in quite a while. It’s a testament to the craftsmanship of Martin that this thing was still in tune when I cracked the case open for the first time in who knows how many years.

The neck shows light relief with medium action toward the higher frets. These early 70s Martins didn’t have a truss rod yet. A neck reset may be the best way to go. There’s still two or 3 mm of saddle to shave down if you want to lower action without going to the trouble of a reset. I’ve left it as is for the next owner to make that call. There’s a hairline crack in the bridge through the pin holes as well - seems pretty stable. New Elixir strings.

The tone on this guitar is very nice. Great low end and crisp highs. It’s a Martin!

Includes original drab green Martin hard case. It’s a little musty, but in very nice shape. One of the clasps is missing. Little felt pad that cushions the body is disconnected but included.
