Gibson 335 1988 - Sunburst 1988 - No38 of 50

1988 Gibson 335, very limited edition.

This is one of 50 guitars that were made for Guitar Centre as a special order in 1988, this model was shipped back to the UK by the original owner (hence the British Airways sticker on the case) and then subsequently sold to me.

It is in an amazing figured sunburst finish on both the front and back and has gold hardware throughout. The gold hardware has faded with time but I think that adds to the charm personally.

There is an aftermarket Varitone fitted to this by the original owner, I tend to have it turned off as it sounds best to my ear that way. Also the machine head on the D string raises slightly (pictured) but works perfectly fine - the machine heads could be changed but I wanted to keep the originals on the guitar.

Neck profile is medium/slim.

The case is original, the strap has come unattached but works perfectly fine. As you may expect from an almost 40 year old guitar the case needs slightly careful handling.

The Gibson Custom Shop wasn’t established until around 1993 but I believe that this spec of guitar would be a forerunner to the Custom Shop, it has the red Gibson label in the F hole for early provenance.

A great players guitar or a great collectors guitar, an incredibly rare - and pretty instrument.
