Rare early Roger Mayer Mongoose Fuzz – Rocket FX Series – Made in USA

For sale is a very uncommon Made in USA Roger Mayer Mongoose Fuzz in the iconic original Rocket FX Series enclosure.

This is an early USA-made example, clearly marked “MADE IN USA” on the original bottom plate, and should not be confused with the much more commonly encountered later UK-made Rocket Series Mongoose pedals.

The Mongoose circuit was developed by Roger Mayer in 1985, designed to deliver a huge, fat fuzz sound with plenty of low end, long sustain and its distinctive focused, almost fixed-wah-like character.

This example is in good original vintage condition and works perfectly and sounds exactly as it should.

The internal construction is particularly interesting. It features traditional hand-built construction with discrete components combined with an LM308AN IC, consistent with the Mongoose design philosophy of combining discrete and IC analogue circuitry. Detailed internal photographs are included so collectors can see exactly what they are buying.

The original rocket-shaped enclosure shows normal scratches and cosmetic wear from decades of use, but remains in very good overall condition. The blue Roger Mayer / Rocket FX Series / Mongoose Fuzz / Made in USA graphics are still remarkably clear.

I have not assigned an exact production year to this pedal, as there are no clearly readable date codes on the potentiometers. Rather than speculate, I prefer to describe it simply and accurately as an early Made in USA Rocket FX Series Mongoose.
